Biography

1898 Born in Tokyo
1923

Graduated from Kawabata School of Fine Arts,
Textile designer and dyer of kimono fabric
Studied stencil fabric dyeing under Yanagi Soetsu and Serizawa Keisuke

1948 Began making strencil prints on paper
1949-62 Annual participant in Kokugakai Exhibition
1957 The 1st Tokyo International Biennial Print Exhibition
1966 Traveling Exhibition, USA, sponsored by The Japan Society
1969 Japan Art Festival, Mexico, Brazil, USA
International Graphics Exhibition (Prize), Barcelona, Spain
1975 Solo Exhibition, Wako Department Store, Tokyo
First of eight exhibitions (until 1992)
1976 Imperial Silber Medal with Blue Ribbon
1984 Honorary Ph.D., University of Maryland
1990 Honorary Citizen of Chuo Ward, Tokyo
1991 Named Distinguished Citizen of Tokyo
1992 Died May 29 in Tokyo at the age of 93
